Two days into the B-School life, I enter the hall to attend my first
lecture on Principles of Organization and Management. A few minutes
later, my professor enters the hall and asks all the students to leave
their seats and sit with him on the floor. Though surprised, we follow
him and within no time we find him explaining the intricacies of the
course, in a non-conventional manner. Giving us some time to settle
down, our prof, famous as Prof. Mandi on the campus, went on to explain
the idea of 'Earning by Learning and Earning for Learning'.
'Earning by Learning '
Until now, I had this misconception that one could never go on to create something new and earn from it, while one is still in the process of learning. But as rightly quoted by Prof. Mandi, we as humans are always in the process of learning. If we were to sit back and spend our time on learning only, our entire education and the experiences associated with it, would find their way to the trash can. In short, nothing would be ever accomplished. Thus, knowledge is of no use until it is put to test in the real world.
To add a monetary angle to it, one hasn't utilized his education worth lakhs of rupees if he hasn't earned a rupee while gaining it.
'Earning for Learning'
While I was still pondering over this thought, Prof. Mandi dug deep into his jute bag and pulled out a couple of very basic toys. These toys, though ordinary, were great tools for spreading education. Prof. Mandi went on to tell us how these toys were developed by our college alumnus while they were still facing the wrath of the B-School schedule.
The Newton's cradle: One of the education oriented toys
On selling these toys, not only did our seniors promote education and earn money, but also went on to use the dynamics and principles of management for their assignments.
At the end of the session, I felt enlightened. I am thankful to Dr. Mandi for changing my perception about education and also giving me this opportunity to write about it.

ReplyDeleteHi Samarsh,
DeleteI think you have posted your comment on the wrong post. I'll still reply here. What you are saying is true and this might actually hinder the worker to keep in tune with times and correspondingly upgrade himself. In such a case, the organization will suffer since its workers will become obsolete. The organization will also not be able to hire new workforce since it will earn a bad name.
Hence, its a trade off. That is why its management..!!!
The point to be noted is..
ReplyDelete1. What the Organization is doiong is NOT to hinder the worker .. but to leverage the worker by work process dividing in to smaller and smaller ones so that DESKILLING takes place..
2.It may seem that a worker will be hindered.. It is NOT true. A worker simaltaneoulsy try to hone his skills and try to come out with something new again and again.. Here again the organisaiton try to capture such innovaitons done by the worker and try to leverage every innovation that is tried by the so called deskilled workers..
3. It is how the progress happens.. Organisaion and the worker try to come out more and more .. dr mandi
Thank u Dr Mandi for your detailed ex[laination. It now fills in positivity in division of workforce of an organisation.
